About Lindy Solomon
Lindy is passionate about art as medicine for the soul and has dedicated her working life to exploring the universal language of art for personal growth, transformation and healing.
She is the founder of the innovative Healing Art process called ASTAR (Awakening Spirit through Art) and her own artmaking arises out of this practice which is based on the principle of working with no mind, intuitively and responsively, allowing the emergent creative process to lead the way and layers of meaning to be revealed later.
Lindy graduated from Michaelis Art School at UCT with a B.A.(Art) H.D.E degree, cum laude, in 1983 and has been involved in art education, curriculum and materials development, facilitator training and community work for the past 35 years.
She is the author of two acclaimed books on art teaching: Khula Udweba and Creative Beginnings. Lindy has trained 60 facilitators in the ASTAR methodology over the past 12 years. These facilitators have spread the creative and healing benefits of this unique approach to a vast network of people.
Lindy is based at her studio in Mowbray, Cape Town, where she is presently teaching, facilitating online courses, workshops and art retreats, consulting and doing her own work as an artist. She has had three solo exhibitions – Unframed in 2005, Unearth in 2018, and Insync in 2020.
